mylar's melodies Popes of Dischord is definitely NOT too long. Lolled at the crowd yardstick - I am ready to Pope when you are. Reconsider the Lily is clubby bliss, that hihat work is lush. Favorite track: Reconsider The Lily.

about

Jas Shaw - "Some of these tracks needed more coercion than others, Popes Of Dischord resisted my efforts to undermine the original take and eventually I gave up. The initial intention was to make a squidgy, loopy backbone and shape that to lead into a few instances of a long shimmery melody, the idea was that each of the melodies was a pope; it made sense at the time. The result was that I had a fairly long track punctuated by 3 tenuously melodic moments, I was pleased. Then, listening back, it’s long, maybe too long? So I started cutting bits out and trying to put a more logical structure onto it so that I could play it out. This was a thankless task, the drums are all one take and recorded to a single channel and the percussion loops in an odd way that I couldn’t find seem to cut up. Even the bass, which doesn’t change pattern, is all over the place. It didn’t want to be edited. It turns out that almost 10 mins is the right length and in a strange kind of way can be used as a barometer for how Dischordian a crowd is. If you mix out after the first pope then they are restless, if two popes is fine then they are shaping up nicely but if you can comfortably play all three popes then they are right there with you, ready to pope."
